Harvest Season: July to August---- Color of fruit at maturity: Yellow, Pink, Red---- Size lbs: 3/4 - 2---- Fruit Production: Consistent, medium to heavy producer---- Growth rate of tree: Vigorous, spreading, open canopy---- Height of mature tree: near 50 feet---- Eating quality (as provided by the experts at Fairchild Tropical Gardens, Miami, Florida): Good to Excellent---- Fiber content of fruit: Little---- Miscellaneous: A seedling of Haden planted in 1937 and first fruiting in 1941 in Miami, Florida. This is an exceptionally attractive mango variety. Valencia Pride is very elongated, compared to other mango's. The color is absolutely beautiful. David Fairchild once said this about Valencia Pride, "The color? How can I put it into words that will mean anything? A delicate mottling of scarlet which spreads like a wash over a background of gold and deepens to a spot of purple; but where a branch of the tree shaded it; it was bright green. The color has to be seen to understand." And we completely agree!! |
